Profile
Teaching is clearly an important activity of mine. And I enjoy teaching. When preparing - and giving - my lectures, I always have Immanuel Kant in mind: ‘‘Theory without practice is empty; practice without theory is blind’’. Well, I guess this saying pervades most of what I'm doing in my professional life.
In addition to lecturing, I act as a course coordinator for several courses at various levels, primarily within macroeconomics, the economics of European integration and pension economics. I'm also a supervisor to numerous students, ranging from undergraduate to PhD level.
Moreover, I teach at CBS’ executive programmes in relation to macroeconomics and financial markets. It's great to work with the MBA students. They are determined, dedicated – and demanding. The lecture room is always a lively place when the grown-ups are back to school…
We have a lot of very good students at CBS. A big pool of talent, really. However, I also come across a number of students who may be misplaced here. Apparently, their commitment to learning isn't high on the list of priorities. More effort is needed...
I have also been involved in a number of educational activities outside of CBS. For example, I have been a visiting professor at the Zagreb School of Economics and Management (ZSEM) and at the Luxembourg School of Business (LSB) - both relatively new, private and entrepreneurial institutions of learning.
At ZSEM I was engaged in developing a regional economics education platform for East and South East Europe. Bringing modern graduate programmes in economics to this region is, in my opinion, an important contribution to economic integration and coherence in Europe.
Some day in the not so distant future I hope to be able to stand in a lecture room in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk or somewhere else in a free Ukraine, teaching a new generation of students about the importance of European integration, and how to build a new order for peace, freedom and prosperity…
